Jasmina Grudnik is a Slovenian painter and illustrator, an alumnus of the Art and Science department at die Angewandte.
In April she started to work on a new project at Art residency granted by the Ministry of culture of Slovenia in Vienna. The children’s book, sketches of which you will be able to see at open studio – is about a bear who comes from a mountain-sea village and decides to visit a big city to find a job, friends and new life. When he arrives, he is surprised, because the things that he sees are not what he expected. Instead of living beings, he can only see robots.
The book is based on Jasmina’s experience of travelling and life between her motherland Slovenia, Montenegro and Vienna, Austria. It is also reflecting oppositions between her life expectations as she would have as a child and the confrontations with the reality and the changing values of life in contemporary society.
At the open studio you will see sketches of the book storyboard and illustrations. You will also be able to order your own digital portrait that Jasmina will paint live. Jasmina offers live painting sessions - use her craft skills to get your portrait inspired by the robotic world, as the bear from the in the story sees it.
